Mondays Mondays

Mondays are always dull and seem to never end. I wish I had pictures to show you; however, my camera is, for the third time) getting fixed by Best Buy! It's so annoying! Anyways, today I took cinnamon rolls into work and made a few people very happy! This is want you HAVE to try with leftover cinnamon rolls:

1. Put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds.

2. Top with ice cream! Almond Mocha Fudge is to die for!

Books Books Books

So when I said I had A LOT of books in the garage... I meant A LOT... Take a look. The line of books in the front acted as a barrier for my puppies. They sit in the garage with my while I sort through this mess!

I've been practicing sewing with Brother (I named my sewing machine Brother). We've been making a lot of pillow cases! My real brother, Michael, used to have a comforter with a houndstooth black and white print. I always thought it was so ugly, but he loved it. A little bit ago a saw Paula Prass' Houndstooth material and bought a bolt of it so I could make Michael something. I made him pillowcases! haha :] Simple, yet unique, I know he will be excited for them. I'm also making my boyfriend a pillow case out of this fabric. He chose it! How cute is he?

I've been practicing sewing a lot because soon MyFabFabrics is going to sell handmade goods such as bags and blankets. My roommate has agreed to help with the sewing. He's a sewing master and I'm a beginner. At first I will probably end up cutting and pinning while he sews... but we'll see.

Between 2 jobs, the fabrics, the books, and the puppies... I'm short on time. Boyfriend has the morning off so we're going to watch Grey's Anatomy for a little bit! yay!

Catch up Post

I know I've been delayed (story of my life...) Please check out the Fabric deals today here! I had a great week. Steven, my boyfriend, had a couple extra days off work. It was nice to spend some extra time with him. We hosted a puppy play date, went to Disneyland, ate at my favorite restaurant, Spoon House, and carved pumpkins! Steven used to have a book business. He sold used books on Amazon and was seeing some decent cash flow. He's showing me how to work the book system and our garage is full of books! I mean... hundreds, possibly thousands, of books! I need to get ahead with cash before this holiday season!

And by the way....

My boyfriend and I have been making a big effort to spend a lot of time together and do things that we've been putting off. Hanging out with our friends something we always seem to put off. Steven, my boyfriend, work long hours usually 7:30 am - 8 ish pm. After work he's been so tired we hardly go out or have people over. Things are changing!

Friday night we went to a BBQ. I tried to Hooka for the first time! It was interesting! The food was yummy and the company was delightful as well.

Tonight we're having a puppy play date! I will post pictures of that soon!

Tuesday we're heading over to DISNEYLAND! It's our first trip to Disneyland together. I'm so excited.

Oh! And I wanted a distraction for while Steven in in Japan for December and I found one! I got another serving job at Lazy Dog Cafe! It's a new restaurant in Santa Clarita that opens in December. As long as your dog is on a leash, you can bring your furry friends and eat on the patio with them! Lazy Dog Cafe will even cook your dog an unseasoned chicken breast for his/her dinner! How fantastic is that?

Changes

First of all, I LOVE the [[HUGS]]!! Thanks friends! Special thanks to Liberty to helped me get a move on this morning!

My boyfriend was presented with this amazing job opportunity. Basically he will be getting paid to travel all over the world and learn how to run a very profitable business. Bad news, he will be living in Fresno for the first 2 years (which is 3 hours away from me) and a bulk of that time will be spent out of the country. His first trip is to Japan for 3 weeks in December.

This is a great opportunity for him! He's been waiting for this family friend to call him for over a year with this job offer. I have to let him go. It wouldn't be fair otherwise. Growing up I have had family and ex-boyfriends drag me down and tell me I couldn't do the things I wanted to do. I've had family tell me that my dreams and goals were worthless and I needed new ones. I will never allow this to happen to anyone else... ever! I'm giving my boyfriend the push to take this job so he can be happy and hopefully secure our future financially. It's a big leap for us. It means us being together probably only a few days a month (not more than 7 days most likely).

This means...
:: cooking for one
:: dog walks by myself
:: an empty bed
:: no one to help wash the top of my car
:: no one to go to the grocery store when I forgot something
:: no one to cuddle with
:: no good night kisses
:: no one to visit me at work when I'm at the end of my sanity
:: no breakfast in bed

The bright side...
:: laundry for one
:: the doggies will be in the bed
(that's all I have for now)

It's an adjustment. He will probably move by the end of November which doesn't give us much time. I can't move up there with him... at least, not yet. My family and friends are here. We just moved and have the world's best roommates. My job is here. And I have some friends that really need all the support in the world and I will not abandon them!

Anyhow, fabric deals for today!!!
Sunday (10/18)
:: David Walker's Vehicles All Over in Orange $5.50 per yard
:: Michael Miller's Mod Garden in Black $5.00 per yard
:: Patty Young's Gothic Flower in Pink $5.00 per yard

Sorry! I tried to upload pictures but it keep says "error" Dang you Blogger!

And, if you haven't yet, please enter the giveaway!

Serving story of the day

Let me just say...

It's obvious that if you complain about your meal, you're fishing for free food. Today I served an older, single lady. She sat down, ordered, and started eating her meal. When I checked up on her she said everything was fine. About 10 minutes later everything was still fine. When she ate 9/10 of her salad she says, "I've been here at least 20 times and this is the only time I am highly dissatisfied! The salad is so overdressed I can't taste anything but blue cheese!" I apologized, asked her if I could bring out anything else, and told her I'd let the manager know.

She then said, "No, no, no. I happen to adore your manager and this is not his fault! This is feedback for you and whoever made the salad!" She had an annoying arrogance about her. I mean... how is telling me the salad sucks going to fix anything is I don't tell the manager???? Well, I told the manager and he talked to her....

He said she didn't want a free meal and she wasn't complaining to get free food (yeah right! The manager gave her a card for a free meal next time she comes back and she accepted it!) When I went back to the table she said, "You shouldn't have told the manager!!! You really embarrassed me!"

...

I don't know what to say about that. If you complain... you probably want someone to fix the problem... Don't be annoying like her when you eat out!

On a completely different note, my brother's dinner party was yummy yummy! I ended up making Madelines, Chocolate Chip cupcakes, and Raspberry Sorbet!

Typos!

Whoa! I was re-reading my previous entry and was overwhelmed by TYPOS! Sorry about that! It's unacceptable from a future teacher, grammar loving, wanna-be-perfectionist to have multiple typos!

So so so so many things on my mind!

1. I did it! I made madelines and they're quiet yummy! The only set back... I was short on Vanilla extract but found an interesting substitute... MAPLE SYRUP!

2. I bought a cupcake book from Martha Stewart. I'm going to be ambitious and try to make tiramisu cupcakes, madelines, and raspberry sorbet for my brother's dinner party!

3. There were A LOT of lame people at work today! I'll spare you the annoying server stories. I'm trying to leave work at work and not take home any baggage.... haha.. riiiiiiight!

4. My boyfriend is leaving Saturday for a cike ride from San Francisco to LA. It's 7 days and it's going to be exhausting for him... anywhere from 70-90 miles per day! I'm talking bicycle here... not motorcycle. I bought him a whole bunch of GU and energy boosting stuff! I hope it helps!

5. I just received the doggie sack from ChillyPaws!

I'm making buffalo wings for dinner! YUM! Here's how I make it:

:: Toss chicken wings in vegetable oil, garlic salt, and pepper
:: Bake in oven at 400 degrees (till cooked through and slightly browned)
:: For the last 10-15 min I turn the oven to broil
:: In a sauce pan melt butter and combine with Franks Hot Sauce
:: Toss wings in sauce!

Yummy Yummy!!! I eat them with white rice and tonight we'll probably have some grilled corn on the cob!

Baking...

I love baking! I love bringing out my Kitchen Aid mixer (named Jill) and filling the whole house with the yummy fragrance. I am, however, in a baking slump lately. It's too hot over here (in Southern California) and I don't want to heat up the house anymore than I have to. And it is SO costly to buy all the ingredients! The cost of good chocolate is sky high these days. This is my dilemma...

Friday night is my brother's birthday. For some reason he decided he was going to make dinner for all his friends and family. It's kinda fancy! Here's the menu he created and send out via facebook message to all his friends:

Menu
Leek and Mozzarella Flatbread
Bacon wrapped scallops and asparagus
Stuffed Mushrooms
Tangy Plum Cole Slaw
Balsamic Rosemary Chicken
Garlic Herb Butter Salmon
Grilled Vegetable Medley

and dessert from Kasey's Kitchen

"and dessert from Kasey's Kitchen"! Talk about pressure for someone who's not in the mood! I wanted to try to make Madeline cookies and dip the tops in chocolate and do an ice cream cake with coffee ice cream and chocolate cake ... but I don't know. I've never tried to make Madelines before.

Does anyone have any ideas?

PS more Michael Miller fabrics will be here FRIDAY including laminated cotton Dandy Damask in Black! I thought that's be a perfect material for diaper bags or maybe a table cloth!

Happy Wednesday!

When eating in a restaurant...

... PLEASE be nice to your server! Chances are, if you're courteous to your server, your server will have a pleasant disposition. I have worked in the restaurant industry for the past 6+ years. I've been a host, expo, takeout, server, trainer, assistant manager-like employee... and let me tell you... it's not always so easy. And contrary to what a lot of people think... We're not all stupid! Do not talk to your server extra slow with extra careful pronunciation. We get it! haha.. at least most of us. Please be nice to us and if we're a good person... you will be taken care of!

There... that's my rant! One last thing.. if you think your server really deserves less than 15%, I think you should mention why. OKAY, here are today's FAB deals!

Today's Fab deals (9/27)
:: Amy Butler's Martini in Blush $5.50 per yard
:: Amy Butler's Temple Garland in Pink $5.50 per yard
:: Jason Yenter Floragraphix IV purple $5.00 per yard

Shopping Results

While browsing everyone's shop I was heavily torn in terms of what to purchase. I loved so many things. I'm also starting to look for Christmas gifts for friends and family so exposure to other Esty shop is a very good thing. Here are some of the irresistible items I saw:

1. The Boo's Brothers from craftylittlekitten. I would love to decorate my new home for all the various holidays. I think this would look so cute on the Kitchen table and bring a little Halloween spirit around for my roomies and me.

2. Raspberry, Vanilla Shea, and Cocoa Butter soap from soapdeli. Doesn't that just sound amazing! I'm in love with bath time... if the tub didn't use so much water, I'd take a long luxurious bubble bath every night! SoapDeli also mentions that this is great for eczema which I have so I'm thinking of snatching up this very soon!

3. An ipod case from tanlinedesigns. This is so cute! If I used my ipod more... this would have been perfect. Plus, TanLineDesigns is a new shop on Etsy.

4. Origami Crane Ornaments from LocalColorist. These would be adorable as gifts! The shop owner talks about the book that inspired her creations and I remember reading that book as a little girl. My mom actually made 1000 paper cranes for her wedding for good luck. It must have worked! My parents have been married for 27 years!

I want to thank everyone who now follows my blog. I tried to follow and visit everyone else's blog too! In the end i purchased this:
Not the dog... haha! I wish! I purchased the snuggle sack from Rendachs. This shop owner donates part of her proceeds to EFA charities and helps spread awareness about the Dachshund rescue of North America. My doxie loves to snuggle under the blankets even when it's 85 degrees in the house! I don't know how he does it!

The BEST day

Today started off super stressful! You know those days where you wake up and say... I can do all these things before work" ... and then it all blows up in your face? That was me!

Sunday my boyfriend and I are hosting a house warming party. It's the first big gathering in our new house. It's the first time EVER I am buying and preparing food for everyone. It's the first time my family will meet my boyfriend's family. It's kinda a HUGE deal.

The house needs some tidying... I'm still in the process of scrubbing the grout... (Almost Precious... I bought Zep from Home Depot.. it's amazing! Thank you so much!!!) ... I need to wash all the guest towels, sheets, pillow cases. The yard needs tons of work... I need to still buy all the food... the list goes on and on...

Well, while I was doing laundry this morning... the dryer DIED! I went to work in wet pants and socks! I was suppose to take a test at work... I didn't study for it. It turns around here...

My SUN HAT came today and I am in love! I wore it for about 3 hours and go quite a few stares while I was driving. SewCuteShop did an AMAZING job! The last 2 bolts of David Walker fabric came today! I went to my parents' house to finish my laundry which saves me money on water and gas!!! People are grabbing the FabFabrics button for their blog and it makes me so happy!! My boyfriend is going to be on the Military Discovery channel tonight! I'm skipping Project Runway to watch him in action... he should be amazed at this!

Can anyone give me tips on hosting a GIVEAWAY? This is my next task!

We're Growing!

I'm not sure what's going on... but business has been picking up for sure! Check in often for new items. I ordered a total of 30 bolts of fabric last week, so I should have fabric rolling in from the following week. Stay tuned for more Micahel Miller and Amy Butler. Alexander Henry fabrics will be introduced to the shop. Also I will be posting some flannel as well as laminated cotton!

Here's a quick look at the Army blanket my boyfriend has been sewing. He calls it the "Man Blanket". It's currently covering out bed. I love the energy he put into it and his creativity as well.

I made curtains for my bedroom with this fabric! It turned out ... not too shabby. I mean, I'm new at sewing and this was my first curtain attempt.

SewCuteShop is hosting a BUTTON SWAP. I'd like to join in on the fun. If you'd like free advertising space post my button on your blog and email me your button html code to myfabfabrics@gmail.com. In return, your button will be on my blog!

Tips for sewing first time

Well, yesterday I began sewing my first project. Check it out here. I'm using this fabric from my Etsy shop. Since I just moved out on my own I'm trying to learn as much as I can about how to take care of my boyfriend and me... and of course, the dogs. I've been learning new recipes, dog-proofing the backyard, and now... sewing! Here are some things I discovered about my adventure yesterday:

1. Read all directions before you start! (yeah... me... not so much!)

2. Make sure you have all supplies before starting. There's nothing like getting head over heels into a project and then realizing you have to drive to Joannes or Michael and ruin your flow!

3. Pin patiently! I hate pinning!!!

4. A good iron is one of your best friends!

5. It's okay to experiment and try new things!!! For example, the PDF pattern calls for fusible interfacing. FIRST of all... I had no idea what interfacing was... SECONDLY, I snagged some suggested interfacing from my roommate and after I cut all the pieces I realized it wasn't fusible!! Well, I just sewed the interfacing and the exterior fabrics together and it turned out just dandy! ... Well, it's partially dandy because I'm not finished yet!

6. If you're stressed out while sewing you might be doing something wrong! I found sewing to be very therapeutic. Brother and I are becoming better friends!

7. Wash all fabrics before starting... especially if not all fabrics are the same material (ie, cotton, polyester, acrylic, etc)

These are my tips for beginners. I hope it sheds some perspective if you are panning on starting the sew!

By the way, I am so excited my favorite magazine subscription finally kicked in! I'm in love with the ideas and creativity in Real Simple!

New Project

I have a new project in the works! I'm so excited!

It involves my first sewing machine that I just purchased last night! I'm just starting out here... and let me tell you... threading the bobbin and the machine and choosing a stitch took WAY longer than expected. Originally I was looking at Singer sewing machines like this one and this one. Ultimately, I purchased this one:

I looked at reviews for both brother and Singer. I think I made a good choice here. It's from brother ... which is why I named him BROTHER. Not very creative on my part, but when I was getting mad at him last night for not cooperating with me... that's what I kept calling him. Yes, I am one of those weirdos who names everything... For example, my car's name is Bessy and my Kitchen Aid mixer's name is Jill. Fun times! Have a FAB day!

Results from Sunday Etsy shopping :]

Thanks to everyone who participated in my Etsy thread! I had a really fun time with it! I was introduced to many amazing shops with extremely talented creators! Here are a few of my fav items that I saw:

**From left to right**

1. Unscented Soy Massage Candle from ChickSratch - After you burn this candle, the wax can be used as massage oil! Super cool!

2. Sakuramochi earrings from TheMossGarden- I love cherry blossom! They are adorable and smell delightful as well. (On a side note... my new obsession is with bath goods from LUSH. Bath bombs and bath melts are truly AMAZING!)

3. Best Friends Forever Sandwich pendant from closetoyourheart - My boyfriend and I love sandwiches so I was thinking of making these into keychains

4. Patty from TackledandShackled - I mean... didn't you see my puppy? I love Dachshund everything!

5. Posy Hair Clip from Nicabee - I love the orangesicle color! Plus, nicabee has supported me in the past with fabric purchases! Thanks!

6. Lace Jabot from WindyHillFibers - I think this looks so elegant and kind of old fashioned! This is something that would make me look sophisticated!

I did look through everyone's shop! There were about 40 responses! I will also be taking time to go through everyone's blog as well and become a follower!

In the end I purchased this beauty:I do not believe I have EVER bought a hat for myself! SewCuteShop is going to custom make me this hat from Joel Dewberry's Meadow Lace fabric! I'm so excited. I can picture myself sitting in my backyard watching the dogs prance around the yard while sitting in my beach chair! That's right... beach chair... We cannot afford real patio furniture!

I also have a soft spot in my heart from SewCuteShop because she is the first person to feature my fabrics in her shop! Thanks so much! I was so thrilled when I saw that!

Have a FAB day! Be sure to check out the Sunday deals each week! I will post the deals on Saturday in order to give you a little heads up!

New Home

... Please don't hate me! I know I promised myself a new inspired fabric shop owner.. and in some ways I have failed; HOWEVER, in many other ways... I've succeeded!

I just finished moving! Yes! Finally I have my own house! It's so much work and I'm super stressed about 90% of the time, yet the other 10% I am blissfully, sickeningly happy!

The fabric/crafting area occupies the dining room of my house! We don't have a dining table, chairs, china, or money!!! so... the fabrics have a lovely home now

Sorry, I know the picture isn't the greatest... but let me continue! The festival that I took the fabrics to was not the best in terms of profit, but it was great in terms of me creating packaging supplies for the fabric!

Isn't the collection growing?!?!?! I am awaiting a few bolts from David Walker. His "Oh Boy!" collection is adorable!

I'm totally in love with this desk that I got for free! It's so awesome! And I also love these plastic drawers! It feels good to be totally organized!

And I just have to share the view from my work station!! I have a pond in my backyard with fishys and water lilys! Ah! I'm in love here!

I wish you all happy days! I've never been so stressed yet so happy at the same time, but I wouldn't change a thing!
